Reasons

We moved down here to NE Texas in December. We bought a nice house on the edge of civilization, next to fields and farms. Down here they only raise cows and hay, that’s all the ground is good for.

Why did I leave the “city”? For several reasons. But what’s more important is to focus on why I am where I am.

The land is pretty decent. It’s not good enough to raise crops in, but it grows grass, and plenty of it, almost year-round.

There is plenty of water, way more than we got in the area I came from.

There are plenty of “critters” — bugs and animals running about.

Most importantly, the people down here are here to raise families and raise cows.

I can talk about the health problems of working a desk job in suburbia, but I won’t bore you. My theory is that we are meant to go outside every day and get ourselves dirty doing manual labor. I can certainly say my skin has improved since I started sweating every day. And my back feels a lot better. Something about doing menial exercises for a greater purpose makes it easier to be consistent.

My plan is to raise good cows, sheep and goats. I plan on eating them, and selling them to friends and neighbors. Using a variety of ruminants, I should be able to build up healthy soil, and with healthy soil I get free grass, and with free grass, I can raise ruminants for free. A little bit of effort should render big results, if that effort is thoughtfully applied.

Who knows what will come next?
