This morning we went out at 6:30 to work on the back fence, clearing the overgrowth. On the way I saw vultures gathered around the pond. That’s the picture of the dead cow. It was probably there for a few days before we found it.
On the way back, around 8:30 we saw a calf stuck in the pond. We got her out but it was exhausting. The calf couldn’t walk, so we set her near the bank so her mom could find her.
I’m told that if you’re not raising cows you won’t get dead cows. Sure, it’s a hit to the pocket book, but no one wouldn’t feel bad knowing they could’ve saved that cow if they had been watching the ranch.
Good news, though: two new calves born a few days ago.
