#31 was born February 6th, 2024 while I took #10 to get her placenta cleaned out at the vet. His dam is #14 who was born in May of 2022. He is a beautiful light tan color, just like his dam.
Unfortunately I found him in the pond that afternoon. Thankfully he was still alive.
He didn’t warm up while I did the chores so I buried him in hay to keep him warm. It wasn’t cold outside, but he was wet and that’s not good.
That night I had to check on him. I brought some towels to dry him off and he was fine. A little tired, but doing OK.
So far #31 has been doing well and I hope he will grow up into a fine bull.
Lessons learned: Always keep dry towels at the ranch and dry off calves that get wet. Someone suggested I keep an old hair dryer as well to dry the calf with warm air. I think I will do that.
#31 came very close to drowning or dying from hypothermia. I feel very blessed that he made it.
