2025 5/26-6/1 Week in Review

Previous week: 2025 5/19-5/25 Week in Review

We got 1.5″ of rain on Monday. The days are getting hotter. The cool season grasses are turning brown. However, there is plenty of warm season grasses already growing strong.

I saw some baby grasshoppers.

The manure patties seemed to start piling up, but the next day they were fine.

Monday 5/26

1.5″ of rain this morning.

The wire kept 1′ off the ground has been very effective at holding the sheep.

Tuesday 5/27

Bermudagrass is coming in thick and strong everywhere.

I saw some baby grasshoppers in some parts of the pasture.

I’m seeing some evidence of dung beetles. The cows are jumping the wire but the sheep are staying put.

Wednesday 5/28

This year’s transition to summer is going to be smooth.

I thought I saw something move inside Red’s belly. Is it a baby calf?

Thursday 5/29

The sheep crossed the crosswire and were grazing in the last 3 sections. I just took the wires down and let them graze.

Friday 5/30

The grass is pretty brown here (aside from the warm season grasses.)

The cattle were making low mooing noises when they moved to the new area. I thought it meant that had calved.

Yammy has some mild hoof scald. I will pen them up soon to take a look.

Saturday 5/31

The manure was piling up. Do I need protein supplement already?

The manure seems fine, actually. Also, they are taking a lot more than 1/3 of the grass when they take a bite. Oh well.

Sunday 6/1
