Next Week: 2025 6/30-7/6 Week in Review
Previous Week: 2025 6/16-6/22 Week in Review
The whole week was hot and humid. with temperatures peaking in the low 90s.
We got two new calves, both of which I am not happy with, likely sired by the white bull. I am going to sell them both with their dams as a cow-calf pair.
I sold the 6 ram lambs to a local person.
Monday 6/23
Tuesday 6/24
We’re now at 360′-280′ from the north.
The animals don’t have access to the shade but they seem to like hiding in the grass. Perhaps it is cooler there.
#14 gave me a black heifer calf. Sire is likely the white bull.
Wednesday 6/25
Thursday 6/26
The black calf is bawling, and I don’t know why. Is she not getting enough milk?
I noticed some sheep had some hoof issues, but I could not catch them.
It’s important to complete the feedback loop. Pay attention to what is happening and make adjustments.
Friday 6/27
New row: 440′-360′.
Red gave me a white bull. The sire is likely the white bull.
I don’t have the time, energy or equipment to deal with the black calf right now. I’m going to sell them.
I am going to look into getting alfalfa hay for the sheep. I won’t feed it to the cows — they do just fine on regular hay and protein supplement.
Our water bill is a lot higher than expected. I probably have a slow leak somewhere. I need to investigate and fix. My idea is to use a wet-dry vac attached to a generator to suck the water out quickly.
Saturday 6/28
We loaded up our rams for sale. I sold 6 of them to a local friend.
Talking with the friends we sold the rams to, we live in the habitat of black panthers and mountain lions! I had no idea.
Sunday 6/29
Planning out tomorrow’s sale at the sale barn.
