I decided the muscovy ducks were big enough, and the pen where I had to keep them was small enough (the fire burned all but 1 of our poultry nets down) that it was time for an experiment.
The muscovy ducks got busy murdering grasshoppers once they met the cows. They eventually got along. I showed them the water in the trough and I showed them where I put their food (well away from the cows.)
That evening, the muscovy ducks disappeared. We couldn’t find any trace of them, and we searched high and low.
In the morning, we found them in one of my neighbor’s ponds. Several of them were killed by a predator. So I scooped up the rest and brought them back to the overcrowded pen. Maybe when they are bigger they won’t be able to cross the fence. I don’t know.
